Products: Taking Out the Trash @ Kari

Before opening his store late last month, Menno Ophelia’s efforts were concentrated on content creation for a metaverse development company. Kari’s small stock has begun to pop with additional accessories products. Aside from the clothing offerings, one can find a collection of everyday “found” objects which have been scripted with multiple poses and/or texture- or colour-changability – a reflection of Menno’s developer sensibilities. Kari’s fixtures are background props with fun’ctionality.

In collaboration with Torrid Midnight of TorridWear, who creates the posturing and sits for the items, Menno has created a series of coloured dollies, a sculpty colour-change fire hydrant and, his latest release, the trash can.

Ever since Oscar made it fashionable in the late 1960s, the metal garbage bin has been the must-have accessory for grumps and winos looking to relieve themselves and rest their weary heads. This time around, the classic disposal container’s got a little more spunk, and a little less spunk … if you know what I mean.

The 9-prim Kari Trash Can is touch-menu driven and holds 4 poses and 10 texture options. The images are seamless wrap-arounds with lots of visual goodies to drink in. My favourite texture is “Lost Notes” with various pet stickers, scrawlings and the pièce de résistance (in my opinion) the photocopied puppy poster that reads: “Dog For Sale: He farts too much, but he’s cute”. This can’s got chutzpah (along with grit, grime and a bit of rust).

The purchase set has a scripted and unscripted can and will set you back a mere 350L. There’s a floor model in-store you can test out before removing the lid and moving in. You’ll notice that only the sitter can click-and-affect the object.
